Solvang, CA ride
Solvang Chapter Ride
June 19, 2010

What a PERRRFECT day for a ride! Cool Nice weather, "just right" temperature & easy traffic conditions. We all met at Pacific Motorsports at 8am, hung out, talked about our week, etc. with a cup of coffee and friends.
Chuck was our designated Road Captain for the day. Chuck rounded our riders together for a quick together and led the "Ride Briefing" for the ride. Bob Lopez (our Lead Shepard) greeted and briefed our new rider about our chapter and ride rules. When the time came to leave, our Sgt. of Arms (Fargo) got everyone ready to go. Chuck lead the group, Bill & Tony were the Tailgunners.

We headed up the 110 to the 405, to the 10 freeways to get to PCH in Santa Monica. We rode north to PCH to the 101 north and stopped at a Shell gas station for gas and a rest (80 miles).

We continued north on the 101 north (what nice scenery  and weather!! Laughing) Then we continued onto Hwy 246 to Buelton. Soon after we entered Solvang! We ate lunch at the Water Wheel Cafe ($1 menu!) Surprised Chuck recommended this spot to us. Great choice chuck! THANKS! Also, this restaurant donates all it's proceeds to a charity.   Some of our members "opt'ed" to stay in Solvang for the night. We said our good-bye's and the rest of us continued our ride back home. We rode out, continuing on the Hwy 246 to Hwy 154 and made our way to the 5 fwy to 405 and back home. WHAT A GREAT RIDE!! Fun, friends and food..what else could you want?

August Chapter Preride

Peter Casey Had a nice ride yesterday to Mt. Baldy Village. It's a 164 mile round trip from my house. I'll be making the same ride next Saturday with my Star Chapter here in LA. We had a nice lunch and a good working meeting. Sorry I didn't post any pics, but maybe next time. - Peter Casey, Lead Road Captain (STAR Chapter #415)

Bob,

Great summary of the ride. As always your ability to capture and communicate the event is only surpassed by your ability to make the rest of us feel good and smile.

Thanks for tail gunning the group, and also thanks to Big Frank for winging me. The lunch was great, all of us at the same spot exchanging story's was really a lot of fun.

The Chapter members really stepped up to make this a great ride. This is what makes a strong chapter, members stepping up. I can't wait for the next ride.

Danny, Chuck, Fargo and Rick, thanks for help keeping us all Safe.

Tony, be aware of drivers on cell phones. Fred and Julio, thanks for the help with the new apps on my phone.

July 2009 Santa Barbara Ride

The weather forecast was good and the riders were anxious to start what should be a great sunny ride up the coast.  The weather in the valley may be approaching 100 Degrees but the question along the coast was if a light jacket should be worn for the morning ride.  Most opted for shirt sleeves.

Having Tim's route in hand two groups left the parking lot of Pacific Motorsports, Chapter 415's always obliging sponsor.  The first group was Road Captained by the Rock who was winged by Frank and his wife Karen (along for her first Chapter 415 ride...yeah!).  Next came Joe, Fred, Tony, Julio and the group was Tail Gunned by Bob.   The second group was Captained by Dan whose rider was his daughter Sarah.  Winging for Dan was Fargo who had his daughter Amanda joining us for her first ride (yeah again!).  Tail Gunning for the group was Treasurer Chuck (yup, multi-talented and as he will readily tell you, it's always good to see him!).  In the group were first time riders Gilbert and Suzie riding an '04 Midnight Star (and yet another yeah!).  Rick and Tina, did the Shepherding honors.  Carl and Robert filled in the second group.

The traffic along the 110, 405 and 10 was light and soon the groups were along the Coast at Santa Monica and the weather was perfect, the Cal-ee-for-nya (thanks Gov.) coast gorgeous and the smell of the ocean air invigorating.  Traffic was light the whole way to the first stop in Ventura by the 101.  After topping off the gas tanks, taking in beverages and enjoying some nice conversations the groups took the 101 to Santa Barbara where everyone parked in the Pier parking lot.  The lot attendants graciously allowed us to park for free!  So everyone walked across the street to enjoy lunch at El Toritos.  It was nice to have the entire group in one place to eat and enjoy each others company.  It was a nice reminder that Chapter 415 is loaded with terrific people. All the guests fit right in and everyone had a great lunch.

After lunch some went for a stroll on the Santa Barbara pier and others walked back to the bikes for some conversation there.  The parking lot was now full and needing spaces so the lot attendees asked when the group was leaving.  When told that we expected to leave in about thirty minute they were fine with that.  They did need the parking spaces that our bikes took up as the cars kept circling us like sharks around a lifeboat.  Soon everyone had returned, the 50-50 raffle was completed and the groups rumbled out of the parking lot to head south on the 101.  The groups rode about an hour to the next pit/gas stop, where the weather was hot and the shade inviting.  After a brief time of enjoying each others company the group was headed down the hot 101.  The traffic on the 101 got heavy for a stretch, but once the group turned south on the 110 the weather got cooler and the horses began running for the barn.

Back at Pac Mo we were greeted by Bill who had gotten off work early and was there to greet us.  All agreed the ride was another winner, the company awesome and Chapter 415 had another successful ride under it's belt.

Thanks to everyone for making guests Amanda, Gilbert, Suzy and Karen all feel welcome and part of the group.  Thanks to all our guests for coming along and we hope you come back and "stay awhile".  Also good to have Carl and Robert along with us for the ride.

Next Month we will be celebrating our anniversary and will be having a poker run.  Let's spread the word, invite everyone, have a great turn-out, good times, a safe ride and have something to talk about at work the next week.
